Back to School season can be crazy! You may have no idea what you need as you prepare for your special education classroom. No worries, I’m here to help you with 10 special education must haves
1. Special Education Must Haves: Personal Laminator
I personally love having my personal laminator to quickly run a set of task cards through! Most laminators heat up in under 10 minutes and you can run a set through while you are teaching. It is convenient to just plug it in and go! Here’s my favorite laminator:
2. Special Education Must Haves: Laminating Pouches
The next special education prep must haves are laminating pouches! If you’re looking for something quick, Amazon has some great lamination pouch options! Always try to get 200 or 300 in a set, it is typically a better buy!
If you’re looking to order in bulk, possibly through a purchase order with your school, Laminator.com is my favorite resource for bulk purchases! They have a Buy 2 Get 1 Free promotion all the time!
PRO TIP: Don’t waste your time with 3MIL, always get 5MIL – I promise you won’t regret it!
3. Special Education Must Haves: Velcro Dots
If you’re looking to up your velcro game, get the velcro dots! I spent years cutting strips because my school said it was better. Life is too short, get the velcro dots. It’ll change your life!
Again, Amazon has some great velcro dot options! They typically come in sets of 500 of hard and 500 soft dots for you! Also, 4 sets fit perfectly in a pencil case!
When ordering in bulk, I highly recommend Feiner Supply – they have amazing customer service and quick delivery! I always order from them through my school. Make sure to order the hook and loop. They also call these adhesive coins! You can also buy strips of velcro if you need that too! Seriously, these is a special education must haves!
4. Special Education Must Haves: Binding Machine
Why would you need a binding machine? I promise it is a special education must have for prep when you are creating adapted books or work binders for students! I use my binding machine almost daily! Don’t forget the coils too! Grab this binding machine from Amazon!
5. Special Education Must Haves: Paper Cutter
Do teachers need their own personal paper cutter? Yes! I can’t count how many times I have had to create an art project and I’ve cut 10 pieces of construction paper by hand. This saves me time and effort! A must have for creating task cards, work tasks and other materials quickly for your class!
This is the Swingline Paper Cutter that I recommend!
6. Spring-loaded Scissors
Have you heard of Spring-loaded Scissors? This spring will save your life for those heavy prep days that you have to cut visual pieces, file folders, adapted books, task cards and so much more! Seriously, if you haven’t tried these, give them a shot! Get these on Amazon for around $20.
7. Special Education Must Haves: 3-hole punch
Invest in a solid 3-hole punch for when you’re prepping work binders, large tasks or homework binders for your students. I love these for School-Home Communication binders!
8. Paper Corner Rounder
Have you heard of this? For years, I would laminate my books, file folders, task cards and more and every time my students would complain that they cut their fingers and hands on the corners. I just found this little paper rounder this past year and I love it!
9. Label Maker
I use my label maker weekly. I’m also labeling student bins, folders, tasks, and every cabinet in my room. No joke. If you don’t have a fancy Cricut to make labels, this is the next best thing. Feed your inner special education teacher and LABEL ALL THE THINGS!
10. Post it Notes
You can never have enough post it notes in the room. This is one of the Special Education Must Haves! I typically carry a set around with me all day to take mental notes of all the must dos in our day. We all know how those creep up!
