Strong Parent Input Statements in an IEP

I am excited to introduce this week’s guest blogger, Catherine Whitcher. She is my Master IEP Coach®️ mentor and IEP guru! She is going to share about Parent Input Statements and why you need them for every IEP you create!

If you’d like to learn more about how to become a Master IEP Coach, you can read more here.

Special Education Parents, you are the only constant on the IEP team, so your vision for your child’s future is CRUCIAL to creating an effective IEP. You need to provide parent input statements for each IEP.

Don’t panic: you still don’t have to write the goals–your teachers will handle that. But give them the opportunity to create goals that really matter to you and your family. When special education parents give IEP input statements to their child’s IEP, a special education teacher can make more data driven goals for success!

When you include parents in the IEP process, it becomes more of a collaborative conversation to create the IEP. This helps encompass the entire child and their progress. Parent input statements should help give you direction in the creation of the IEP.
