Task Cards for Special Education

Task Cards are one of my new, absolute favorite things to have in the classroom. You can find them on almost any topic and I promise you that your students will love them too. They are perfect for all types of learners and amazing for independent work!

What are Task Cards?

Task Cards are typically picture sized 4×6 printed activities that your students need to select an answer to show their understanding. Students can use clothes pins, mini erasers, beads, dry erase markers or pens to circle and mark their answer! I’ve even modified for my students to use bingo markers to select.

Task cards are great for independent work, centers and work tasks for your students to complete during class time. This helps your students review skills. It can also be used as fact fluency. Perfect for teaching new skills or showing their understanding.

How do I prep them?

SUPPLIES YOU’LL NEED:

Once you have all the prep materials, I print out my task card sets. I take each sheet of paper and put it inside a laminating pouch. Each laminating pouch goes through the Scotch Thermal Laminator.

I always laminate so that the activity can be used multiple times and with multiple different students!

Cut each card out so that there are 4 individual cards (questions) from 1 sheet of paper. Put all the task cards in a pile and put it inside a photo keeper for quick grab and clean storage!

What do I do with task cards?

  • Whole group instruction
  • Small group instruction
  • 1:1 sessions
  • Independent work
  • Pre-teaching
  • Re-teaching
  • Assessment
  • Leisure and Recreation
  • and so much more!
